More than just filling the afternoon with activities, we want children to learn to understand the world — and act in it.
Developing reading skills and a taste for good literature. The classics are the backdrop of all the work: stories that feed vocabulary, imagination and a sense of what good writing is.
Writing is thinking: by giving shape to ideas on paper, the child organizes what they learned, discovers what they don't yet understand and learns to think clearly.
Articulate speech — presenting ideas in order, telling a story, making an argument, and presenting your own work to the class.
These skills run through everything that happens at the Open Class, with literature as the common thread.
What drives this work is each child's curiosity. Every student chooses their own research project, based on real interests.
It is this personal question that gives meaning to reading, writing and speaking.
But research itself is a skill you learn. At the Open Class, children are taught the tools of intellectual work, adapted to their age:
Each question connects to the great narratives of nature, science and culture — everything in the universe is related.
While leading their project, each child also learns to organize their own work:
Constant self-evaluation develops self-awareness: knowing what I know, what I did and what I need to improve. Little by little, the student takes charge of their own education.
A lead teacher, together with the school's coordination team, closely follows each child's path, proposes activities and guides the investigations.
Everyday life is enriched with experiences that educate the body, the hands and the senses:
Every day: reading, writing, projects and English (3x a week). And each day brings a special activity:
Open from 8 am to 7 pm. Options of 4 or 7 hours a day — each family chooses the days and times that make sense for their child.
Small mixed-age groups (7 to 12 years old), with limited spots — open to children from any school.
Investigating, creating, growing and being together — learning happens in many languages.
